Description and operation

Description

•	Torque converter control solenoid valve (T/CON_VFS) is attached to the valve body.

•	This variable force solenoid valve indirectly controls the hydraulic pressure inside the torque converter.

Repair procedures

Inspection

1.	Turn ignition switch OFF.

2.	Remove the battery and battery tray. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")

3.	Disconnect the solenoid valve connector (A).

4.	Measure resistance between solenoid valve terminals.

Check that the resistance is within the specification.

•	If DTC about the Torque Converter Control Solenoid Valve is found, replace according to the procedures removal / installation.

Removal

1.	Remove the battery and battery tray. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")

2.	Remove the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")

Remove the drain plug (A) and reinstall the drain plug after draining ATF totally.

Drain plug tightening torque :

33.3 ~ 43.1 N.m (3.4 ~ 4.4 kgf.m, 24.6 ~ 31.8 lb-ft)

•	Replace the gasket before reinstalling the drain plug.

•	After the installation, start the engine and then check if there are any leakages from the drain plug.

Remove the wiring mounting bolt (A) or clip.

Tightening torque :

9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

5.	Disconnect the air breather hose(A) from the valve body cover.

Remove the valve body cover (A).

Tightening torque :

11.8 ~ 13.7 N.m (1.2 ~ 1.4 kgf.m, 8.7 ~ 10.1 lb-ft)

•	Replace the gasket (B) before reinstalling the valve body cover.

•	After the installation, start the engine and then check if there are any leakages from the valve body cover.

Disconnect the oil temperature sensor (A) and solenoid valve connector (B) from the valve body.

Tightening torque :

9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

•	Check connector for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage before reinstalling the solenoid valve connector.

Remove the solenoid valve support bracket (B) and the valve body mounting bolt (A-1ea).

Tightening torque :

9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

9.	Remove the torque converter control solenoid valve (A).

Installation

1.	To install, reverse the removal procedure.

2.	Check fluid level after filling the automatic transaxle with fluid. (Refer to Hydraulic System - "Fluid")

3.	Perform the TCM adaptive values learning procedure. (Refer to Automatic Transaxle Control System - "Repair procedures")
